Last Saturday, we went to a big family cookout. We were told not to bring anything but ourselves, but I couldn’t do that. Am I the only one who does that? I feel like I have to bring something when I’m invited to eat anywhere else. I wanted to at least bring one or two things, so I brought my Spinach Dip and these Magic Bars. They were a huge hit!

These Magic Bars are so quick and easy to make. I think they are going to be my new go-to dessert to bring to parties or for when I need to whip something up for someone. You basically just layer everything and bake it.

Yes, they are really that simple.

I’ll be honest with you. I don’t really like coconut, but my dad does and I wanted to make something he would enjoy. I tested these out and LOVED them. I guess the flavor changes some after being toasted in the oven with the other ingredients. They are SO good. So much so, that I tested them out several times….ya know, just to make sure they were really worth taking to the cookout.

What do need for these magical bars? Graham cracker crumbs, butter, chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, shredded coconut, walnuts, and sweetened condensed milk.

Start by lightly spraying a 9×13 baking dish with nonstick cooking spray. Melt your butter in a small pot on the stove.

One your butter is melted, add the graham cracker crumbs and mix them with the butter until they are completely combined,

Using a rubber spatula, spread the graham cracker mixture evenly into the bottom of your baking dish. Be sure to firmly press it down.

Now you’re ready to layer everything else. Start with the chocolate chips…

Then the butterscotch chips…

Then the coconut…

Then the walnuts…

And lastly, the sweetened condensed milk. Make sure you pour it evenly over everything.

Use your rubber spatula to carefully spread it out if you need to.

Now it’s ready for the oven. Bake it at 350 degrees F for 25-30 minutes.

It’s ready when the edges are golden brown and the middle is set.

Let it cool completely before you cut into it.

Time to enjoy these little Magic Bars and share the love (if you want).

Want to switch things up? Try out these suggestions.

  • Substitute pecans or almonds for the walnuts.
  • Substitute peanut butter chips for the butterscotch chips.
  • Try using semi-sweet chocolate chips instead of milk chocolate chips.

The options are endless for these. I’m sure the outcome will always be delicious. You just can’t go wrong with Magic Bars.
